  • Lydz got their start in making spelling mistakes when they were young. Their lowest category in standardized testing was always spelling; against the myriad of 97+ percentiles was a consistent figure hovering around 60, “spelling”. They were not suspected to have dyslexia until later in life, however there was always an understanding that deep down in their core was a rejection of the colonial language. They wrote in secret so that their spelling would not be the focus, often destroying what they wrote to get more comfortable freely bleeding the words, however they never stopped writing. Today when you book copy writing and storytelling with lydz, the second person hired is someone who is good at spelling. Content created at Sewa delivers - clients meet or exceed their goals for fundraising, dive deeper into their story, and often are part of a creative process that makes one feel the collective “effervescence” that can only come from expressive accomplishments.

  • Since 2013, lydz has proudly followed the historic and deeply rooted punk tradition of producing zines and independent media for education and expression. Most popular media are in the style of magazine, comic books, and one page zines.

  • In person and online, community must be curated. Sewa’s team has curated space in both the digital and analog world. From Facebook groups with up to 420,000 members, interaction installation art, community events, and coal setting campaigns, Sewa has enabled community members to connect and thrive in ways that make meaning and result in life long relationships.

  • With humble beginnings in childcare and assistant preschool teaching after dropping out of college several times, lydz became hyper-fixated on learning. As a nanny, they dove into the topics their little ones cared about, adapted practices for teaching that gave results. They eventually expanded into the role of “teaching artist” where they were able to instruct classes covering creative writing, graphic design, photography, and illustration to students from elementary school to adult continuing education. The'y’ve taught classes and workshops in colleges and Title 1 schools, and fell in love with teach-ins during the decentralized Occupy movement. They learned Really Really Free Markets, self defense, and the basics of popular Anarchy for community care at Occupy Santa Barbara, behind the courthouse off of State street. The care they received from other Indigenous activists inspired them to lead more classes. Today, Lydz and Sewa have taught well over 1000 hours of classes covering art, pre-colonial spirituality, culturally competent business classes, and more. Curriculum developed by Lydz always pays homage to the love, care, and needs-based social learning they were taught to provide in early childhood education.
